quotes

I have always been a big fan of a good quote. Yes, I know that using quotations from others is a sure sign that you've got nothing worthwhile to say yourself... I cvan't help it, I saw these today on the Dr. Pepper site, and I liked them, so here they are:
"You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

"It is one of the most beautiful compensations of life, that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
The first one epitomizes my motivation for fundraising for the AHA Heart Walk. The second is something I have learned since starting. I hope that those of you that have donated have felt it too.

  2. Have you ever heard that the surest cure for depression is to do things for other people? Kind of snaps you out of yourself, I guess. Also, people who have the habit of choosing to do things for other people are less likely to be depressed in the first place.

Ever read one of those "poor me" blogs, or know one of those "pity party" people IRL? Think about it -- how often do they mention what they do for others?

I can be a real windbag on the subject of depression, because I'm not depressed. When I was 13 I was a real windbag on the subject of "What the hell do you mean you're sitting out gym class because of your period, you freaking wimpy-assed moron?" I started getting cramps two years ago, so now I know why some girls sat out gym, and I also know I shouldn't be too windbaggy about depression.

Especially since depression isn't even close to your topic.

    Derailed train of thought again!

  3. lol, I followed that thought process though, derailed or not. And yeah, I agree. I think people who don't do for others are depressed, and doing for others is defenitily preventative medicine against depression.

And you know, I never got really crampy either, till I had my tubes tied in January, and now it's like GAH! WTF!?

I don't like it one bit...
