The accident happened while Irwin was filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrier Reef in northeastern Queensland state, Sydney's The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on its Web site.[Link]
The 44-year-old is believed to have been killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest while he was diving.[link]
Irwin had a puncture wound to the left side of his chest and he was pronounced dead at the scene.[link]

Just heard about that today arounf 10-ish my time. Sad, sad thing. The guy had a strength of spirit and resolve to not let the dangers of living life effect his inherent wonderment of the elements in his own surroundings. Lived dangerously? Sure. But loved what he did and believed in what he was doing. 'Nuff said.
