Pictures!

OK so most of this has already been said, but here we go again: This is Donovan Zane LeClair, our newest little addition to the family. He was born at 12:18pm on December 2, 2005. He weighed 6 lbs 13 ozs and was 20" long. I know most of you already know what medical problems he's facing, so I won't go over them again in this post, I'll just let you enjoy his gorgeous little self :)

Thought I'd share some pictures, in case you doubt the objectivity of a new mother who says her son is gorgeous ;) We actually took about 200 more, but these are the ones I've cropped and resized and that aren't too awful dark.

They're finally feeding him, (he didn't eat for the first 24 hours) and he's only getting 10ccs at a time but he eats it like he means it. They gave him formula, and a binky, which they weren't supposed to do, but I wasn't there to feed him so they didn't have a lot of choice. I'd rather they fed him formula and gave him a pacifier than to let him go hungry and cry all weekend, which was pretty much the original plan - so his belly was empty for the heart cath.

Anyway, he's still doing really well. As you can see, he still isn't on the respirator, which makes my little heart happy. It can be hard for them to adjust to coming off of it when they've been on it a while, plus, being on the respirator means they have to be fed through a tube, which makes the hospitalization even longer because they have to re-learn how to suck and swallow before they can come home. . . so we're really hoping he doesn't have to be intibated!

So welcome to the world Nova! We love you!

There was some confusion about his weight for a while thanks to the doctor's inability to convert from metric to standard, but he weighed 6 lbs 13 oz and was 20" long.

  4. How precious!! He is absolutely adorable! I know I haven't written anything to you in a while, but I've been in to check on you now and again... You and Donovan "Nova" (cute nickname, btw) are in my prayers!! I know it's gonna be hard for a while, Erin, but make sure you take care of you too. ;-) Love you! *HUG*

  8. Less than 24 hours V - I'm not sure exactly what time I left Union Regional this morning, I'm thinking it was about 11am, so something like 23 hours post partum.

They originally offered to let me out at 10 hours... I could barely feel my feet yet at that point so I opted to stay till this morning since I wouldn't have been able to see Donovan anyway because of getting him settled and doing some blood work and testing.

  9. Definitely kickin my ass... or more specifically, my ribs. I feel like a cow, and want my body back... but I've still got 9 weeks to go... assuming I make it to the due date. I'm ready to have this baby already. We still dont know if it's a boy or girl, and it's starting to kill me now. I want to know!!! LOL.

  10. Well congrats on your new addition. He looks mighty strong for such a young fella. Being a new parent myself, it is both exciting and scary. Best of health.

    Ken~
How is that gorgeous daughter of yours!? No doubt keeping you up at night eh? (lmao@oswald cobblepot)

    Eve~
9 weeks?! Is that all!? I don't think I realized our due dates were so close together. You know the last month or 2 are the most miserable part, it'll be over soon and you'll wonder where 9 months went.

We didn't know what Nova was until 2 weeks ago, and I was so happy I found out so I could call him by name. It made him more "real" if you know what I mean. Made buying baby stuff a little easier too lol.

  16. Erin, heh, and I just got done e-mailing you and asking for pictures. I guess I should check here before going to e-mail. He is truly a gorgeous little man. And wow! A big boy for being a few weeks "early". Big is good, he'll need it.

They did the same thing to J-man when he was born, gave him both formula and binky before I hardly even had a chance to hold him. We struggled with breastfeeding for a couple of months afterwards, and I finally gave up. He was intent on formula. But that's ok. I suppose that good nutrition, whether from a can or a boob, is still good nutrition. And I couldn't imagine not feeding a baby all weekend. Ugh. How terrible.

I'm so glad to know he's doing so well. So far everything seems to be perfect. *hugs*

    Love you, E,

    Angie
