Painting a Wild Woman

He painted a portrait last night, drew lazy strokes
through hues of me. Rendered beautiful

beneath his brush, I posed where midnight
and indigo shone through dragonflies' wings.

He curved my lines against the bend of a willow -
slick knife swipes, pale to contrast a springtime sky

and reflected beyond the shoreline, rose
the swollen wet scent of my birth.

  1. You people KNOW how broke I am, right, and how I'm so freakin stingy with myself... well, I'm about to order a print of this painting. I'm so totally in love, and damnit, tomorrow's my birthday!

  3. This is lovely E. Both the painting, and the poem it inspired. I you like her style, check out Jessica Galbreth. I'll see if I can find a link.

  5. You know what's cool? I wrote the poem first, and found the painting totally by accident while looking for dragonfly/damselfly pics.

Thanks for the link, I'm on my way to check it out as we speak :)

  6. I think this one could pass for Inanna on that site - I'd enter their poetry contest, if there was a cash prize lol

  7. E, do you have a thing for dragonflies? I don't think I knew that. :o) I do, too. Imagine that, another thing we have in common. Did I show you my dragonfly tattoo - my 18th birthday present to myself? Anyway, I stopped indulging too publicly when they became such a fad and everything had a dragonfly on it, but I still love them.

Lovely poem, BTW. Sorry I don't have something more intelligent to say about it! :-P

  9. Actually Erin, I don't have a particular fascination with them - but have managed to become involved in 2 (well, now 3) conversations about either dragonflies or damselflies, and you know how it is when you get an image stuck in your head and it demands to be written.

I'm not really a fan of any bug I can think of, though I suppose if I had to pick one, dragonflies would probably be it. But nah, I'm more of a hummingbird type lol.

  12. Well, E, I have some nice dragonfly pics if you still need one. :o) I use them as desktops from time to time. BTW, they eat mosquitos/mosquito larvae, so you gotta love them for that!
