Exhale

Exhale

Yellow seeps into white, like piss
on the concrete of some distant city
where sidewalk evangelists
harangue the homeless and the lost.

Death is held in the knobby knuckles of
maple and oak - the birch peels
like the skin of a frostbite victim,

and the pine lingers on.
